Ok, I was invited over for pizza the other night at a friend's house. I work
with him. They have a tradition to have pizza on fridays. I have been to
their house on several occasions for said pizza. They are very gracious
folks. I actually stayed with them for two weeks when I first arrived in
country. They have three kids, ages 7,5, and 3 roughly. I was sitting in the
salon, waiting for the pizza to arrive. The kids had just finished their
baths and they came running in to play on me. Then something very stranged
happened. The 5 year old gave me two gold candy wrappers (they look like
gold coins) and said, "These are for your kids." I was taken aback by that
statement since I have no children. And for the first time in my life, I was
asked "How many kids do you have?" from the 7 year old. The 5 year old piped
in, 'yeah, how old are your kids?' I was kinda taken off guard by these
questions. I laughed and said that I was not married and did not have any
kids. Apparently, this was not sufficient. They persisted that I was indeed
married and that I had kids and they wanted to know how many and how old. I
was a bit perplexed that they didn't believe me (why would I lie?). I
insisted that I was not married and had no kids. I said, 'Look at your dad's
hands, he has a gold ring on one hand and that means he's married. See, look
at my hands, I have no ring.' The quick 7 year old replied, 'Well, you must
have taken it off!' Well, they wanted the truth, and I wasn't giving it
satisfactorly. So they went to the source of all truth, their parents. Well,
namely their mom. She had just come into the room and they rush to ask her
if Uncle Scot was indeed married or not. Her first reply was, 'Well, he's
sitting right there, why don't you ask him?' of course, i replied to her,
'They did'. So she looks them square in the eye and says the truth
matter-of-factly, 'Uncle Scot is not married'.....its been ringing in my
head eversince. But I suppose I am an oddity to the kids, being the only
adult (who they see often) who is not married and has no kids. I was
planning on leaving the golden wrappers at their house, but their mom
slipped them into my bag somehow and here I am staring at them and
remembering...when i should be doing a bit of Word study, i am giving 'the
Word' at tomorrow's service!

Quote
"We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small
does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightening about shrinking so
that other people won't feel unsure around you. We were born to make
manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us,
it is in everyone."
